Fabiola Arias on Kickstarter

One of my favorite designers and Parsons fashion design graduates Fabiola Arias is about to launch her Spring 2012 collection and looking for your help! She has reached out for funding through Kickstarter and is offering various rewards for the different levels of sponsorship. They vary from a personalized Thank You card to a signed illustration from her collection, an invite to her presentation, and even a tour of her studio. What a great way to help an emerging designer who has already won two awards this year: The Fashion Group International Rising Star Award for women's wear, and the Gold Coast Fashion Award.

Glossy Box Feature

About a month ago I was asked to become a stylist adviser for a European shopping website called Glossy Box. What followed was a 3 day whirlwind of video and photoshoots and the final result is finally online at GlossyBox.de I am featured alongside the Italian photographer ... and the British ... The feature just went live today. You can see the collage of my favorite things {here} They certainly captured my love for bright colors and patterns. Most people assume that because I live in NYC I wear mostly black. I actually look for the opportunity to wear color and pattern any time I can and the last couple of seasons I have been very happy to see the bright palettes come to the runways in full force.

Keren Peretz

Remember Keren Peretz? She graduated from Parsons about a year ago and has been creating some really unique accessories. She just launched her new website and it looks incredibly creative!

The website opens up with a stop motion animation movie. Here are some stills from it.

Parsons Fashion Show 2011 - Part I

I've chosen some of my favorite looks from this year's fashion show in the following couple of posts. This year the students created even more spectacular collections with mature ideas and superb execution. Unfortunately only a couple of looks per students could be shown in the fashion show, but I was honored to take photos of most of the student thesis presentations and will be bringing you full collections in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime I hope you enjoy the short video and select looks from the runway.

Cut and Paste

These images came up in a conversation in one of my classes at Parsons and I was drawn to the simplicity of the concept and the beauty of execution. It's just the right amount of wrong for me. But what's really mesmerising (again that's for me) is the moving images in the video.

Damien Blottiere's words: "After the shoot and the collage process we did with Robbie, I wanted to bring a movement to those fixed images. Working on a collage is like painting but using scissors and a cutter. I cut the lines, I build shapes on paper and faces. The video is trying to reflect the whole process, from the emotion you got while shooting a model to what I'm searching for underneath, following features. You have to hitch the skin to find sensitivity".

OntFront Store Opening

One of my favorite emerging design labels OntFront, Dutch duo Tomas Overtoom and Liza Koifman has opened their first brand store.
The interior of the store features espresso brown walls with golden clothing racks (designed by architect ADA design) Large picture of a Zazou, a dandy rebel from Paris in 1944, takes a prominent place at the entrance. The Zazous were an infamous subculture during the second world war. These youngsters showed their identity and vision on life through clothing and slick hairdo’s. It was the time of bebop- and swing jazz. The Zazou represents everything that OntFront stands for: style, music, originality, vision and creativity.

I love their Fall Winter collection video even more. The collection is called shift gear and the video is a great blend of action, vivid graphics and a street-race action heroes, inspired by sleek sports cars like Lamborghini and Spyker.
