If Your Clothes Could Talk

It is already a reality! MIT scientists announced this week that they have created a new kind of fiber capable of detecting and emitting sound.

Professor Yoel Fink and his team have developed a process for making fiber that can act like a microphone or a speaker. MIT's Press Office says: "Applications could include clothes that are themselves sensitive microphones, for capturing speech or monitoring bodily functions, and tiny filaments that could measure blood flow in capillaries or pressure in the brain."

Just imagine the stories they could tell... Reality TV to a whole new level!!

Signature Style - Lynn Yaeger

Some people have a signature style that they naturally follow and no matter when and where you see them you can instantly recognize them from afar before you can even see their face! Lynn Yaeger {the famed fashion writer for the Village Voice, The New York Times, Vogue.com and Full Frontal Fashion at the SundanceChannel.com} is one of those people. She has a strong personal identity and can be instantly recognized by her bright red hair, doll-like face and lips {see it in a previous post here} and a layered A-line silhouette. She is a constant fixture at fashion events and an obvious lover of vintage finds. I keep seeing her at numerous flea markets and vintage fairs and I've seen countless variations of this look, often paired with a Comme des Garçons piece.

Fashionable in the Heat!

Here is one way to beat the summer heat! Tank top and maybe a hat, but for a fashionable look make sure you are well accessorized! I bumped into Houman Farahmand and Eri Wakiyama, in SOHO a couple of days ago. Do you remember Eri? I covered her fashion design graduating collection last year {HERE}. RISTO Fall/Winter 2010

I loved the reds at the RISTO fashion show. The girls had the bright red lipstick to match too. I've been brave enough to try out some bright shades of red lipgloss myself. Have you? It seems to be the trend this season and the next one!

5 Fashion Trends You'll See in 2010

It's the time for a look into the new year, resolutions and predictions. Everybody has a plan of how they can improve themselves during the new year! New goals, new horizons, new waistline, new clothes. Whatever your style, you will surely find something fun during the new year on BobbinTalk.

Here are 5 trends that I think will be big during the new year:

1. Designers will embrace Social media even more and recognize bloggers as important trend-setters

2. If Lady GAGA can rah-rah in 10" contraptions, then most fashionistas will too!

3. Lindsey Lohan will continue to launch fashion lines around the globe! Why, you ask? Well, somebody is buying her product! Don't tell me it's you or someone you know! You wont see coverage of her designs on this blog!

4. Vampires have already taken over the teen world, Fashion runways lookout! The moms are just as obsessed and are thirsting for more blood red lipstick and team Edward tees! Bella's wedding dress has already been sketched by Zac Pozen, Christian Siriano and Badgley Mischka. Twilight fashion is here to stay! {I shouldn't be talking... I read all four books on my iPhone this summer during my honeymoon}

5. And last, but certainly not least; if my dad can ask me for a video camera that can shoot at least an hour of video, then as sure as a brand new lux bag on Brianboy's waif hand, we'll be seeing a lot more home-made fashion video coverage on the blogosphere, including on BobbinTalk.

Bluest of Blues

Do you wear strange color lipstick? Do you mix colors? I certainly do, but I stay in the more traditional red shades. Fay {a fashion student at Parsons} on the other hand is a stickler to really working on her outfits and styling colors top to bottom. I would've never thought about it, but she used an eye-liner to achieve this deep dark shade of navy blue on her lips.

She assured me this was the only "lipstick" that never rubbed of on any of her food or coffee cup. Hmmm... I wonder why!

Happy Friday

It's quite gloomy in NYC today and even though I already bought some stylish winter boots, my mind is still transitioning from a happy sunny summer to a somewhat coolish fall. The Old Farmer's Almanac predicts this will be one of the coldest winters, and I take that as a sign to stimulate the apparel and accessory economy! Here is my first choice of a mix-it-not-sure-what-to-wear shoes.
