Remember those gifts I got from Varna, Bulgaria for friends back in NYC? Well, I've decided to give away one of them to one of you, my dear readers. A pair of wooden dolls dressed in adorable traditional Bulgarian folklore costumes will go to one lucky reader, picked at random next Friday, July 21, 2010. The dolls measure: 4" toll for the boy and just above 3" toll for the girl. They are about 1 1/2" wide each. Their faces are hand-painted and their clothes and flowers are made from colorful fabrics, depicting traditional costumes typical for Bulgaria.
Just leave a comment with contact info below this post to be entered in the giveaway.
And here are a couple of photos from our wedding last summer in Varna, Bulgaria where we had a folklore themed wedding. In addition to our NYC wedding we decided to have one in the town where I was born and grew up and thought it would be fun for our friends to spend a week on the Black Sea during the best of summer season - July. We had plenty of traditional rituals and lots of dancing. The costumes vary a bit from one region to another so you see the doll's are slightly different from the ones on the dancers below.
They even got me and my hubby involved in the dancing. Here you can see they are wrapping me with a folklore sash right before they whisked me into a dancing frenzy! Should've taken my heels off before that, but who knew!?!
John Painter is the Winner!
