Shades of Blue - Antoine Cancre

Digging through my Parsons Fashion Design thesis previews photos I discovered Antoine Cancre and realized I never featured his collection.

A strikingly thin and tall Frenchman Atoine presented a mesmerizing women's collection in shades of blue fabrics. In between his fast talk and thick accent and an endless array of azure variations the whole experience was so striking I can't understand who did I ever forget to feature him.

Can you imagine having a wardrobe of clothes with variations on one color...  and wearing them every day, even only just for a month!

Samuel Green

If you are an avid BobbinTalk reader you probably saw Samuel Green's collection during thesis review at Parsons this past spring. Now a fresh graduate and with a bit more time on his hands he reshot his collection with a bit of flare and a sense of dreamy modern femininity.

 
 
 

  
 
  
  

Aimee Kestenberg - Winner for Best Use of CRYSTALLIZED™ - Swarovski Elements

I am so proud that Aimee Kestenberg won the Handbag Designer Award for best use of Swarowski crystals this past week! She was one of my students at Parsons and is one of the hardest working young designers you'll ever meet! She already launched her line Jatalika at Debut store and is destined for a bright future as an accessory designer! Unfortunately I wasn't at the awards ceremony, but I was with Aimee when she was sweating over her designs and spending sleepless nights carefully placing every Swarowski crystal on a well thought out design. Her bag is inspired by the fluid shapes of an octopus. Here is the designer in action:

Anthony Caserio

Anthony Caserio graduated from the Parsons Fashion Design program this spring and he was one of the designers who caught my eye. I already did a post on his thesis presentation here, but he recently did a professional photoshoot with his collection and you can see the beauty of his garments in full bloom. Quite impressive, don't you think?

 

Mode Manifesto

Usually Parsons and FIT students don't mix together much but this group of fresh fashion graduates created something trully amazing. Twelve young fashion designers came together to organize a fashion show in the West Village NYC, that any professional designer would be proud of! Here are the young designers:

Tae Ku at STOLL

I met with Tae Ku at STOLL studios New York. She presented her knitwear collection with fellow graduates from the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Her concept was based on an aerial view from an airplane. And here she is introducing her collection.

I love Tae Ku's business cards. She has her sketch, printed on the back of the card.

If you are not familiar with STOLL, please feel free to visit their website Stoll.com They are masters in flat knitting machine techniques and one of the very few manufacturers who are in New York City.

They are starting a series of seminars on knitting and hand flat knitting classes for the months of July (15-16 and 29-30) and August (12-13 and 26-27).

Jovana Mirabile

Jovana Mirabile is a fashion design student at Parsons and just completed her junior year. She developed her own shibori print for this collection, which reveals an even greater depth under black light.

Born and raised in Kansas, Jovana has been designing since she was 6 years old and has been creating and constructing her designs since she was 13.

I loved that she went further with this concept and created jewelry and handbags that complement the collection.

Governors Island

Beautiful weather and a long weekend ahead! Hope you all get to enjoy the Holiday! Here are some photo from the LVMH/Parsons event on Governors Island which marked the successful completion of the mega project The Art of Craftsmanship Revisited. Twenty three teams of interdisciplinary students from five departments within the New School for Design came together with established artisans to create designs and videos of their collaborative efforts. It was a short ferry ride from Manhattan into Governors Island

Fashion design student Stacey Cunningham wore the perfect outfit to be blown in the wind!

I had never been to Governors Island and was quite curious to see what it looked like.

I have to admit the island felt like the perfect getaway to spend a week here. Such a short ride from Manhattan {less than 10 min ferry ride} and so beautiful!

Naturally there were quite a few fabulous outfits! A bit of sparkle added quite a lot of glamor for Fabiola Beracasa'selegant bright blue dress with matching headpiece.

And the design work was displayed within a few of the surrounding houses. The following outfits are the result of the student collaborations with the artisans.

 

Each established company or artisan also created a display to feature their own craft.

Parsons at Saks Fifth Avenue - The Windows

For one week the graduating fashion design students from Parsons The New School for Design take over the Saks windows and bask in the bright lights of graduating glory! What real life is gonna hold for them is a different story. For now we can enjoy the beauty of the successful collections displayed on the windows.

Parsons at Saks Fifth Avenue

I am excited and happy and sad for all the fashion design students who just graduated from Parsons yesterday! Excited and happy because I've had an opportunity to get to know so many of you! You are so talented and I wish you all the success in the world! I hope to see you all conquer the fashion world, whatever path you take! Sad because I won't see you roam around the Parsons corridors dragging countless bags of patterns, muslins and garments looking cool as only young designers can! I will miss you all, but you are in my heart and you will always have this blog to go back to! And for those of you who have my cellphone all I have to say is: Midnight is the cutoff for text messages, UNLESS there is a fierce fashion emergency!

This time I'm going to stray away from my usual coverage and am shamelessly posting photos of myself! Sorry if I missed taking a picture with you, I probably took a photo OF YOU and I'll post it later! Also look for more photos in the Parsons blog at: Fashion.Parsons.edu I'll be posting more photos there later today.
