Inspiration for a Stylish Look - Naoki

I just got my hair cut really really short, and even though I don't have a photo to show you yet I have something even better. I have photos of a stylish Japanese award winning hair stylist/ color specialist for you. I met him while I was getting my haircut at my favorite Japanese salon YUI salon on 323 West 11th St in NYC. Meg is the best! Love you! While I was sitting in the chair I noticed a super stylish guy with a bright necktie and an unusual tie knot. I had to talk to him and take some photos so I can show you. Unfortunately all I had with me was my iPhone, but the photos came out pretty good anyway.

Here is what Naoki does to achieve this look: he folds the tie in two and then wraps it around his neck and pulls through the fold, leaving the tail end of the tie really short. Simple but fun, and effective, don't you think! Naoki was also wearing hand-painted canvas shoes. Take a look:

And if you wanted to know more about Naoki Douzono, I should tell you that he is quite famous in Japan and has won the prestigious Japan Hairdressing Award for Tokio. Normally he works in HIROIN salon in Japan, but he visits the YUI salon every other month to work with clients in NYC. His website is in Japanese, so I couldn't understand most of it, but his portfolio is spectacular. You can see it at d-standard.com. Here is a shot of it.

3 BobbinTalk New Year's Resolutions You might Like

This past year has been a turbulent one and I am sure most of you, just like me, have gone through some tough times. I lost my job as an accessory designer at Ralph Lauren, but I gained a book contract with Fairchild Publications. Without a regular, daily job I still got to get out of the house, teaching my accessory design classes at Parsons, but really spent most of my time behind the computer writing the book. And let me tell you: the quiet and slow birthing of a book could be really lonely! I started a blog {yes, the one you are reading right now} AND got a Twitter account, AND very recently started a YouTube channel, YES I spent wayyy to much time online, BUT thanks to all of the above I made lots of online friends and actually met some of them in real life. So here are my resolutions for the new year:

1. I shall meet and get to know more of you guys! Yes, I'll get out of the house more {Yay, the first book draft is pretty much finished}. Send me an invite to a fashion or art related event in NYC and I'll be there, with my camera, I promise!

2. I promise to bring you some fun fashion videos. There will be some How-To's and fashion book reviews and behind the scenes and interviews with designers.

3. I will finally get the Accessory Design Online courses rolling. The website is already up at FashioneTutor.com and I have most of the content ready. It's based on the college level Accessory Design textbook I just wrote for Conde Nast/Fairchild Books, which isn't coming out till 2011.(I know it's corny to mention it twice in this post, but what the hell, I still can't believe it myself)  You guys would have an exclusive opportunity to benefit from from experience and the all the info I gathered during my research. All I have to do is load it up and figure out the logistics. So for any of you who would like to learn more about  inspiration, design, sketching, and manufacturing accessories this will be very helpful!

All in all, I'll be concentrating more on you! So don't hesitate to comment, email me and suggest anything you'd like to know about the business of fashion and accessories. Also I've been struggling with how personal this blog needs to be. Should I reveal more of myself or not. I've decided to come out a bit more as long as it has to do with fashion peeks and showing you how things work behind the scenes.

So... to a Fantastic, Happy, and Successful 2010!!! May all your dreams come true this year!

How do you spend your Holidays

I love curling up with a book during a cold winter day, don't you? Lately it's been more of the eReader on my iPhone but I still have a library full of pretty books to look at. I love the idea of binding up all my books in exotic skins, or at least prints of exotic skins. I have a friend that binds all her books in white paper, but then again her whole apartment is white, including her geraniums! Can you believe that? It does look very chic and no she doesn't have a white fluffy cat, wearing diamonds, although that would be quite glamorous! What are you doing during your holiday?

No the pictures are not from my library, they are from the Bergdorf Goodman Holiday windows. Yeahp, I have even more photos of them.

Red Santa Inspires

Did you know Santa's coat was green prior to 1880? And no it is not due to the Coca Cola commercials that his coat became red. The Coca Cola company press center gives their answer on their website:
Q. Is Santa's coat red because that is the color for Coca-Cola?
A. No. It is a common misconception that today's Santa Claus wears a red coat because red is the color associated with Coca-Cola. In fact, Santa appeared in a red coat in numerous earlier written accounts and illustrations, before Sundblom painted him for Coca-Cola advertising.
I personally love all the different variations of Santas and red outfits that come out during the Holidays!

Paula Cheng's David Bowie outfit could be one sexy Santa outfit.

And the visual team of Bergdorf Goodman created an amazing window with a card playing rendition of Wonderland, hanging sideways on the wall as if you were looking from above!

What Do You Wear in Front of a Bear?

y hubby has been obsessing with camping lately, buying all kinds of gear and clothes and heading out into the mountains to rough it up. Me? Not so much! After all, he had a hair-raising encounter with a bear, walking around his tent early in the morning. But if I did go, I would wear colors of the rainbow and would certainly expect things to be fun and colorful and covered with flowers all year long! Ha! I'd like to see a bear fit in this color scheme.

Leitmotiv - Menswear

This is so rare, but true with Leitmotiv, menswear that is actually more fun than the womenswear collection from the same label. Not much more to say here than ENJOY! It is making my Saturday morning brighter and more fun. Unfortunately the weather in NYC is pretty gloomy, but I'll make the best of it with friends. How about you? Would you see your boyfriend or husband wear any of these fun prints, or are they too much? Would you buy any of these pieces?

  

 

 

 

Post Halloween Post Fashion Week

If you thought this was a Halloween outfit, you'd be wrong! This was a guy I kept seeing during fashion week an every outfit he had on was more outrageous than the previous one! I took some pictures of him and after I went to introduce myself and ask for his card, all he said was: "Why?" But he did mention he was a stylist. So there, I don't know his name, but he is worthy of a post-Halloween Sunday post.
