Remember Bessie Afnaim, the recent fashion design Parsons graduate? For her graduate thesis she created a timeless women's collection from softened and over-dyed fabrics which wrap around the body with a sophisticated touch and nomadic comfort. You can see her collection {HERE}. Post-graduation she was snatched by Donna Karan herself to contribute to the Urban Zen Retail Gallery in NYC. Bessie has her own section in the store, where she set up an impressive display rig, complete with her inspirational images, draped garments and accessories from designers like Carolyne Roumeguere from Kenya.
I can't express how happy I am to see young designers like Bessie Afnaim get the recognition for their design talent. Within the Urban Zen gallery / work studio she is able to create for a worthy cause and display her graduate collection. What a dream come true!
Donna Karan herself was serene and happy after her upbeat colorful DKNY collection show, greeting customers at the shop and enthusiastically explaining the mission of the Urban Zen foundation.
