I'm finally back in NYC after three weeks of heaven at my parents house in Varna, Bulgaria. Three weeks of exciting and exhausting events with friends I haven't seen in years. First there was a high school reunion (I'm not telling how many years) and then there was our wedding ceremony. Both filled with emotions and endless stories, hugs and tears...
Living so far away from the town I grew up in and visiting once a year just made it that more special to have a wedding celebration with friends visiting from all over the world. We had our ceremony in this small monastery, nestled in the woods around the beaches I visited when I was young. This time I walked those same streets holding my husband's hand in a wedding dress. It was so much fun to see little kids stare at me, the grown up in a wedding dress! When did I grow up?
Needless to say my dad and I planned a Bulgarian folklore theme wedding, complete with dancers in traditional costumes and a barefoot dance on hot coals, called Nestinarstvo. You can see some boys and girls in costumes lined up on both sides of me and hubby, as we walk into the restaurant and below leading us into a dance. The fire is getting ready for the barefoot coal dancers.
