I just met with Helene Verin in her lovely and stylish apartment, which I think deserves a feature of its own, but first things first. Helene just published a book on the life and work of Beth Levine , naturally called "Beth Levine Shoes", which you can find in Borders stores or Amazon.
Beth Levine was an extraordinary footwear designer most notably from 1940s-1970s and pioneered many innovations before anybody else. Unfortunately she didn't gain the level of fame that she should have, but her designs are in museums all over the world and she is referred to as "The first Lady of American Shoes Design".
Here is a video of Helene talking about Beth Levine and her designs.
Beth Levine made shoes for Barbra Streisand in “Funny Girl” and the stiletto
boots worn by Nancy Sinatra to sing “These Boots Are Made For Walkin’.”
Mrs. Levine reignited a trend for boots in the 1960’s with her
stretchy stocking styles and vinyl Go-Go boots, designed for dancing, and of course walking all over you!
I personally really like this version. She is such a sexy kitten!
Can you believe the short sweaters!?! I wonder if this video would fly with today's TV audience on a regular cable channel!
